Failure Analysis

Every manmade product fails over time. Ideally though, no product should fail prematurely.  Since we don’t live in an ideal world, those failures do happen and failure analysis (FA) must be done to establish their root cause and subsequently avoid similar failures in the future.

In many instances, a case of FA is in essence a case of CSI – “Crime Scene Investigation”.

Our extensive knowledge of various failure modes combined with a set of high-tech equipment allows us to successfully analyse and establish the root cause of a failure.

Failure Analysis

The following Tests/Analyses are typically involved to establish the root cause of product failure:

Visual inspection and X-ray Inspection

Cross-sectioning and parallel lapping

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)

Energy Dispersive X-ray Microanalysis (EDS)

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)

Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)
